LDM24 DIGITAL MONITORING ADAPTER
![]() Adds digital capability to the Lindos LA100. Makes a great precision-calibrated simultaneous A-D / D-A converter for the Studio. Housed in a compact 1U high case, the LDM24 consists of a pair of precision-calibrated A-D / D-A converters that produce both balanced and unbalanced AES-EBU, signals to and from the LA100's inputs and outputs. As the LDM24 is essentially transparent to analogue signals, LA100 sequences, tolerances and weightings can be used in the digital domain, exactly as they are in the analogue domain. Analogue to Digital Section . ![]() The LA101's analogue signals are received by a balanced, floating front-end, followed by a precision switched level control. The resulting signal passes to a 24Bit A-D converter. Output sample rates can be set to 32kHz, 44.1kHz and 48kHz, to an external reference, or to track the incoming digital bitstream of the D-A section. Coding level can be set in 1 dB steps, from -6dBu = 0dBFS to +25dBu = 0dBFS, providing a precisely calibrated digital signal. The need for precision calibration is becoming ever more necessary as the increasing use of digital equipment, and little standardisation in operating levels has resulted in a wide variation in digital coding levels even within a single organisation. Simple level metering is provided to confirm that the coding level selected is appropriate for the levels being used. Operation of the -1dB light indicates the imminence of digital clipping. Conversely, operating at -20dB or less on the indicators means that the noise-floor will be higher than optimum. Metering is done in the digital domain, and is a genuine peak-meter ensuring even the fastest transients are registered. MUTE button silences the AES-EBU output. Digital to Analogue Section. ![]() The incoming digital bitstream is monitored for errors and any errors detected since the last reset are displayed. The errors are shown in ascending order of severity.
Decoding level setting is the same as the coding level, ensuring that the LDM24 presents a "transparent" path to the LA100 signals. The LED indicator of decoded analogue output can again be used to ensure that the coding/decoding levels are appropriate to the bitstream being analysed. The D-A process automatically detects and displays the incoming sample rate. Two indicators are provided for each sample rate, ±4%, indicating a usable signal, and ±400ppm (0.04%) indicating that the sample rate is within the AES-EBU specification. An incoming signal outside the sample rates supported will be indicated as Out of Range. The D-A converter is followed by a differential output stage. Specification Power supply 85-264 volts 47-440Hz, 3 pin IEC connector Dimensions 483 mm (19") rack mount, 44mm (1 ¾"- 1U) high. Optionally, the LDM24 is available without rack mount ears for bench use. . Analogue-Digital Section ![]()
